CUSTOM OR UNIVERSAL Our tops are custom made to your Carolina skiff console and ONLY your console. They are engineered to be tight fitting to your console so your walk around space is not hindered.  They provide proper  shade from the front of your console seat to the back of your cooler/leaning post seat.  There are universal tops you can buy on-line from companies that claim to fit all boats.  Yes they will fit all boats in the same way a size 13 shoe will fit a two year olds foot!  Sure that child’s foot will slide in the shoe, but he wont be able to walk correctly.  Universal tops do not provide shade coverage correctly, they use small pipe/threaded rod connections to the console that will spider crack your console as well not provide proper support.  There needs to be four mounting points to the console with pipe/pad combinations providing a large surface are against the console to give proper support and no cracking of the console.  In essence, all the above mentioned in the “Why a top?” section does not apply when you purchase a universal top.  You boat will actually be devalued with a universal top.  As a business owner/tower fabricator for 16 years  I can personally attest to repairing or removing these tops from boats.
